Hammock rocker mechanism? Does anyone know of a non-electric diy rocking mechanism that can be driven by a weight or a spring. It can be a crude version as I’m using this for my outdoor hammock. Can't seem to find anything on the internet, but i may be asking incorrectly.

Does anybody have ideas for creating a perpetual motion machine? My science fair topic is to disprove the second law of thermodynamics, and in sense create a perpetual motion machine. I know many smart people have tried, but there has to be a way! My idea was to have a magnet attached to a string, attached to a wheel. The magnet falls, pulling the string and pulling the wheel. It then comes off the magnet. The kinetic energy of the turning wheel is harnessed and converted into electricity which powers the electromagnet. It pulls up the magnet, the string reattaches to the magnet, and then the electromagnet turns off. The magnet falls, starting the cycle all over again. Any ideas or comments? I’m already aware that Leonardo DaVinci has tried, along with many respectable people.

Is a perpetual motion machine possible? Why? Is a perpetual motion machine possible? Why? 1. Yes, it's theoretically possible, but too complicated to build. 2. No, it would violate either the first or second laws of thermodynamics. 3. No, it would violate the first law of thermodynamics.

    1. I think that if a machine was made that could use the energy and motion produced by the earth's rotation it could be possible, but then again it wouldn't be a true perpetual motion machine. But a true perpetual motion machine is impossible, because of the law that “An object in motion will stay in motion until acted upon by an unbalanced force”. Any object built on earth will always be under the force of gravity, so no object can stay in motion forever.

Perpetual Motion? Three days ago Everything in the universe is in motion relative to everything else. In that respect you could say that everything is in perpetual motion, but not the

If Man were meant to carry heavy loads over great distances he'd have wheels. If Man were meant to swim he'd have fins. If Man were meant to fly he'd have wings. Perpetual motion..why not? Ok so ive been asking a lot of Physics related questions..now this one.. On perpetual motion.. If this conservation of energy is true then how come a perpetual motion device has not be successfully built? Or at least something that produces more then it consumes? For example if I’ve a Styrofoam wheel with magnets being spun by a small motor and some gears, wouldnt i generate some electricity? Which then could be stored in some capacitors to give the illusion of current gain and then charge some batteries…. I mean, people stop trying, well THE SMART people who are so convinced it’s impossible they stop trying because they’re so smart and say “well thermodynamic law one say blah blah blah” so then the abandon the idea..but doesnt history show they the “current” knowledge of a certain time tends to be proven wrong in the future… If a certain someone had accepted the “current” “knowledge” of his time and just swallowed the idea of a flat earth then that would of had a lot of implications dont you think. I just think we’ve a lot of new devices and technology so maybe it wouldn’t hurt to give some of those old ideas that where though impossible another try because we’ve tools that in those times where not conceived yet… Sorry if i seem irrational but im going to start an electronic engineering course soon and i would like to think it’s possible to come up with something new that will change this world for the better.

It's not impossible. No one has figured out how to make it possible with what we know. Maybe you'll be the one. You could also say we already have perpetual motion. The planets traveling around the sun has been going on for millions of years. The question is how do you harness the energy. Good luck and keep trying.

“If this conservation of energy is true then how come a perpetual motion device has not be successfully built?” The claimed perpetual motion devices aren’t perpetual motion devices in the slightest sense. These machines transfer motion to other mechanical parts that keep the machine in motion. Transference of motion is not the same as infinite motion. “for example if I’ve a Styrofoam wheel with magnets being spun by a small motor and some gears, wouldn't i generate some electricity? Which then could be stored in some capacitors to give the illusion of current gain and then charge some batteries….” You would generate electricity if the magnet was spinning near or around a wire used to direct current. The electrons on the wire would be pushed by the magnet thus generating an electrical current. The motor spinning the styrofoam would have another source of power. You could attach the wire to a chip that has capacitors on it and you could store the electricity. This wouldn't give the illusion of “current gain.” “i mean, people stop trying, well THE SMART people who are so convinced it’s impossible they stop trying because they’re so smart and say “well thermodynamic law one say blah blah blah” so then the abandon the idea..but doesn't history show they the “current” knowledge of a certain time tends to be proven wrong in the future…” Perpetual motion machines violate all three laws of thermodynamics. If the three laws of thermodynamics didn't work then the universe would be completely different. And, yes history has shown that science changes errors, but these errors are quickly sterilized from mainstream science and the laws of thermodynamics aren’t a modern idea. Stating that history tells us this about modern ideas is extraneous when talking about an idea that has withheld time and experimental observation. The laws of thermodynamics are correct. And, you're assuming that most of the “current knowledge” is eventually proven wrong, but there's a lot that’s correct. “if a certain someone had accepted the “current” “knowledge” of his time and just swallowed the idea of a flat earth then that would of had a lot of implications dont you think.” Actually the idea of a flat Earth was disproved a long time ago in ancient Greece by Pythagoras in the 6th century BC and Parmides in the 5th century BC, but the concept evidently wasn't accepted by many. “and if there is no friction is space why not take a generator up there and give a nice spin and it’ll keep going and generating and then we find a way to send that energy back to earth” Yes, but to take energy from the generator you would need to apply some force to it to direct the energy from it. The energy used to set it in motion is not infinite, the generator keeps spinning because of inertia, until you apply an outside force which will be needed to channel the energy from its motion.

David Hamel and his theories of perpetual motion? A few years ago I was living in Ontario and was told of David Hamel and his encounter with ET's who taught him about free energy, perpetual motion, etc. Although I don't full understand these ideas and concepts is any of this really believable? He used magnets as the basis of his theory, it's pretty deep, anyone care to elaborate or perhaps support/denounce his theory? The more responses the better.

What would be the point of a perpetual motion machine? Lets say that someone invents a perpetual motion machine. One that’s possibly realistic and is one hundred percent efficient. What could you possible use it for other than possibly as a battery but even then the transfer from the machine to the outside world would come at a cost of efficiency, since if you take any energy out of it it’ll promptly stop being a perpetual motion machine. So then why do people try to create them when even if you could make one it would be pretty much useless.
