Has any of the perpetual motion nay sayers ever tried it? My son and his friend about six years ago for their 6th grade science project built a simple perpetual motion wheel using magnets and counter weights. It was enough to get them 3rd place in the county finals. And yes it worked, it didn’t produce anything other than a simple spinning wheel that spun continuously until manually stopped, over unity is another issue and thats what science investigation is about.

Rotating magnetic device wins ‘perpetual motion’ contest. “USE Of black holes, spatial singu-larities or magnetic monopoles are expressly forbidden. The motion must be truly perpetual and mustn’t rely on ‘natural’ …

Wow – notice how they all say why your son didn't make perpetual motion? None of them even said if they’ve tried it or not – they'd rather be like patty hearst and believe what others tell them, instead of thinking for themselves! I'm not a nay sayer, cos i've tried it and done it

There is a vast difference between figuring out better ways to do things (such as laser weapons) and re-writing the laws of physics to do things. NTH IQ has not created a perpetual motion machine, and it’s absolutely absurd that you think he has. I stand by the laws of physics. They seem to work Report Abuse

You make me laugh, and cry a little bit at the same time. Obviously I don't believe everything others tell me, because I don’t believe what you’re saying. And I'm not going to focus my research time on something like this, that time is better spent elsewhere. Report Abuse

Sci.SKEPTIC FAQ Strange Machines. 8.3: Why do not magnetic perpetual motion machines work? Magnetic motors have a clever arrangement of magnets which keeps the motor rotating forever. …

That was not perpetual motion since the device used the energy (flux) from the magnets to stay in motion. There is no such thing as a permanent magnet. They’ll all become weaker with time and eventually lose their magnetisim entirely. No more spinning wheel. Perpetual motion is impossible because the device would have to create enough energy to sustain it's motion forever. That’s not possible. Law of conservation of energy.

Had your son and his friend actually managed to create a perpetual motion machine, not only would they’ve destroyed the competition at the county science fair, they would have been on the cover of every major magazine in the world and they would be filthy rich and getting richer. I assure you that what they built was not perpetual. EDIT: Well congrats NTH IQ, you have successfully re-writen the current laws of physics. I applaud you. I'll be sure to see you on top of the world very shortly.

I can not believe that the machine had perpetual motion, the magnets provided an energy source and that energy source would slowly be depleted as the magnets lost their strength and/or polarity. The wheel probably did spin for a long time with out a perceptible loss of speed, but this is only because of conservation of momentum and low friction losses. The wheel would stop if allowed to spin without further assistance for extended periods of time.
